- Bachata is a social dance and music stye that originated in the Dominican Republic in the 1960s. It is characterized by its rhythmic, four-step footwork and distinct Cuban hip motion on every beat. It's less about sensuality and more about musical interpretation and joy. Compared to Salsa, Bachata is typically slower and more lyrical, with simpler footwork and a closer, smoother partner connection.
